America Enters WWI

The United States remained neutral at the beginning of the war.

Unrestricted submarine warfare.  German U-boats, using torpedoes, sunk many ships.

Lusitania was sunk on May 7, 1915

Zimmerman Note:  Germany offered Mexico land if they would fight against the U. S.

American troops were called "doughboys"

With the Americans entering the war it quickly ended on November 11th 1918

Over 15 million died. 20 million more wounded.
