What is a pilgrimage? a trip to the Holy Land to worship

Which pope started the crusades in 1095? pope Urban II

First Crusade  1. reconquered Asia Minor and Jerusalem in 1099

2. sultan Saladin retook Jerusalem in 1187

3.  2nd and 3rd Crusade accomplished nothing

4.  Fourth Crusade attacked and robbed the city of Constantinople

5.  What happened in the Children's Crusade? p 154 thousands of children were tricked and sold into slavery

6.  By 1250 Ottoman Turks became most powerful force in the Muslim world

7.  In 1453 Ottomans recaptured Constantinople and marked the end of the Eastern Roman Empire
