Switzerland is known today as a nation that tries to stay neutral and  is called "An Oasis of Peace"

The Netherlands: AKA Holland

What are the people from Holland called? p 226 Dutch or Hollanders.

Why is Holland called the lowlands? because much of the country is below sea level.

When did Holland become an independent nation? p 227  After the 30 yrs war.

Who were the Moors? p 231 Muslims from North Africa

 

Spain located on the Iberian Peninsula.

The Romans called Spain Hispania.

The Moors conquered Spain till King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella pushed them off the continent in a war called "reconquista" in 1492

Spain sent explorers to the New World and became wealthy from the gold and silver and entered a "golden age" in the 1500s with King Philip II.

Portugal led the way in exploration.
