Judges of Israel

The Israelites soon began to worship the Canaanite's gods.

For 300 yrs God ruled Israel through judges.  12 in all not counting Samuel.

Theocracy: a form of government where God rules.

 

Eventually the Israelites demanded to have a king

Saul became Israel's first king.  

What eventually happened to Saul? p 44 he died tragically on the battlefield.

God chose David as the next king 

1. David led Israel to its height as a nation-state.

King Solomon  wisest man on earth.

Solomon put much of his wealth into great building projects.

How did the Israelites become slaves in their own land? p 46 they had to pay heavy taxes and were forced to work on the buildings.

David and Solomon both reigned for 40 years.  After Solomon's death Israel split into the Northern Kingdom and Southern Kingdom.
