Led a monastic life at Erfurt Germany

1.  he searched the scriptures and found that "the just shall live by faith"  (not the Catholic Church)

2.  Published the 95 Theses and nailed it to the church door.

3.  This started the Protestant Reformation

The Reformation let loose the true spirit of individual spiritual liberty and was a good beginning to the Modern Age
