Minoan civilization lived on the island of Crete 1600 to 1400 B.C.

  1.  built an impressive palace at Knossos

  2.  crisscrossed the Aegean Sea as sea traders

What do some historians believe happeded to the minoans? p 69 volcanic activity on a nearby island may have destroyed the Minoans with volcanic ash, earthquakes, and tidal waves.

The Mycenaens flourished on the mainland of Greece

1.  very war like, AKA pirates of the sea

2.  built a fortress city of Mycenae with walls 10 feet thick

3. Trojan War, 10 year seige of Troy.

After the Trojan War 1200 B.C., the Dorians conquered Greece and Greece fell into the Dark Ages (writing stopped).  Around 700 B.C. writing reappeared and Greece was greatly influenced by the blind poet Homer.
