List three physical features about Arabia. 1 million Sq miles, little rainfall, high temperatures, desert wasteland.

Who are the bedouins? wandering nomads

Who did the Arabs descend from? Ishmael

What does Mohammed's name mean? highly praised

Kaaba is a religious building that houses the Black Stone.

Mohammed

Mohammed started receiving revelations from the angel Gabriel

1.  He convinced himself he was the anointed prophet of Allah (same God of the Jews)

2.  His claims and teachings were accepted in Medina as he quickly gains control of the city

3.  Starts a "jihad" or Holy War to "purify"

4.  Close followers of Mohammed wrote the "Koran"

1.  What is the Koran's principal teaching? there is no god but Allah

2.  What does the Koran completely reject? the Bible, Old and New Testament

3.  What does the Koran hold? that the Bible distorts the truth

4.  What does the Koran teach? Allah revealed his will through his final prophet Mohammed.

5.  What does submission to Allah's will demand? submission to what Mohammed said is Allah's will

6. Look at the picture on p 151, how is a prayer rug used? 5 times a day a faithful Muslim will pray bowing toward Mecca
