2.  Henry VIII started the English Reformation & broke ties with Roman Catholic Church.  So England changed from Roman Catholic to Protestant ( Anglican)

    1.  Magna Carta  gave Englishmen basic freedoms

            King John     -   1215
Forced to sign the Magna Carta, King John gave all Englishmen three seeds of freedom.
1.  No Taxation w/o representation.
2. Trial by Jury
3. Due process of law

Early English Explorers

     John Cabot

First modern European explorer to set foot on
         the mainland of North America

Sir Francis Drake  AKA the "Sea Dog"  first Englishman to sail around the world, in 1577, in his ship the Golden Hind.

    Common-store system-   a communal system where each man was required  to place his food in a "common store" where all could draw from.  

    1.  problem is more took out than put in

    2. supplies were quickly depleted

    3.  AKA Socialism -  Communism

Captain John Smith   -Saved colony from starvation.
