Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León set out in search of the legendary
fountain of youth in 1513. He did not find it, but he did find Florida,
which he attempted to colonize. He was attacked by natives and died after
escaping to Cuba. The painting here shows him with his band of explorers,
receiving water from the what he believed was the fountain of youth.
