   New Deal Failures

   1.  U.S. took a big step toward socialism

   2.  New Deal threatened the American tradition of   free enterprise (capitalism)

   3.  Great cost and inefficiency.  by 1939, after 6 years of gov reforms, over 9 million workers
remained unemployed

   4.  New Deal did little to help the economy, and even prolonged the Depression.

   5.  Laid the foundation for a social welfare state

   6.  Expanded the powers of the Federal Government over business, industry and agriculture.

Election of 1940

   Roosevelt's 3rd Term 1st President to break from the 2 terms only tradition.

After Roosevelt's death, Republicans pass the 22nd Amendment. Ratified fifty years ago, on February 27, 1951, the 22nd Amendment guaranteed term limits for the president.
